Quote of the Night

Every life is in many days, day after day. We walk through ourselves, meeting robbers, ghosts, giants, old men, young men, wives, widows, brothers-in-love, but always meeting ourselves.

James Joyce, Ulysses

*James Joyce didn’t just write stories—he changed the way stories could be told. In Ulysses, he took one day in the life of a man in Dublin and turned it into a huge, detailed journey through the human mind. He showed that everyday thoughts and feelings could be just as powerful as big, dramatic events.

Joyce broke the usual rules of writing. He played with language, mixed styles, and let characters’ thoughts flow freely on the page. Because of him, other writers like Faulkner and Beckett felt free to experiment too. He helped open a new path in literature, where the inside of a person’s mind became just as important as the outside world.
